Welcome to Quizzers, a social experience for those who enjoy testing their knowledge, with the possibility of bathing in the glory of winning, or at least beating the other u3a team(s)!

HOT NEWS We have increased the frequency for this quiz night group to every two weeks.

We meet every fortnight on a Tuesday evening at a local pub to take part in the venue's own quiz night. Typically we form two or three teams of between 4 and 6 members each, with a nominal cost (currently £1 per person) to enter, and this is paid to the venue. Average attendance at the quiz nights is currently 11 or 12 members. 

The top two teams at the quiz win vouchers towards food and drink at their next visit to the venue. Every player also receives a raffle ticket from the quiz organiser, and if drawn, can win £50 (sometimes more) by correctly answering one question.

In June 2025 one of our teams won the first prize, beating all of the other teams at the venue (not just u3a teams). I am really proud of this, the first time we have won, and I was particularly disappointed that I wasn't there, due to being on holiday. 

Since then, the same team of 6 members won first prize again in August 2025! Well done to The Amnesiacs. 

In July 2024 we set a new record, with 20 u3a members at the Royal Oak, forming 4 teams each with 5 members.

In May 2023, u3a teams came second and third (out of 12) at the Royal Oak, with the 2nd-placed team winning a £15 food and drink voucher!

*** YET ANOTHER WIN *** At the Royal Oak in July 2023 one of the Quizzers had their raffle ticket drawn, correctly answered the question and shared the £50 prize with his team members on the night! 

You don't need to be a "mastermind" to join Quizzers; some of us are there just to enjoy the social aspect. But it is a good feeling when you are the only one in your team who knows the answer to a question (especially if you get it right!).
